When presented with this information, nuclear suddenly doesn’t seem so sinister. Coupled with a survey published by The Energy Collective, public support increased dramatically when those surveyed learned that nuclear energy is the world’s largest source of carbon free electricity.
In the U.S., nuclear energy accounts for 63 percent of America’s low-carbon electricity. Upon being informed, 84 percent of Americans said they believed nuclear energy should be important for America’s energy future. Even more telling, 83 percent of citizens located near a nuclear plant showed support or strong support for the nearby plant, 15 percent higher than the general public.
